| It's Deeds by a mile Creigh Deeds won the Democratic gubernatorial primary in Virginia today with just under 50% of the vote in a three-way race. His victory sets up a rematch with state Attorney General Bob McDonnell, who defeated him in that race in 2005 by a mere 323 votes out of more than two million cast. This race is going to be a battle royal with both national parties pouring everything they have, and then some, into their candidate in hopes of proving some larger point and heading into the 2010 midterms with the wind at their back. (As you are well aware, challengers are already getting their names and faces out there, and incumbents will start campaigning this fall, when Congress returns from the August break, so the timing on this race compounds it's importance.) Before I move on, major props to Terry McAuliffe for being such a gracious contender. Within three hours of the polls closing, the front page of his website had a message congratulating Senator Deeds, a message that we all need to pull together, because Virginia needs Creigh Deeds, and included a link to his fundraising page. Way to be a team player, Terry. Thank you.
I think The Onion probably has a civil case against Sarah Palin for intellectual property theft (Yes, I realize the cognitive dissonance that automatically kicks in when "Sarah Palin" and "intellectual" are used in the same sentence, but bear with me.) Sarah Palin did another (ins)Hannity lovefest Monday night, and the disconnect was staggering. First she touted the way they do things in Alaska, where the state resources are considered community property and all the residents share in the largesse...then turned around a few minutes later and bemoaned the direction the nation is heading as "socialism."
Uighurs may find refuge in Palau The United States is in the final stages of negotiations to transfer seventeen innocent detainees who have been ordered freed by a federal judge from detention in the Guantanamo Bay prison camp to Palau, a sparsely populated chain of islands in the South Pacific.
Remind me to never piss off Joan Walsh She made a fool of Liz Cheney on Campbell Brown's show this evening, and didn't let the torture-loving bee-otch shout her down...and worked in a "Bush Cheney torture regime" and a taunting "Oh really?" and a "That's not true." Way to go Joan! If we are ever in the same city at the same time, I own you a drink.
More of this, please! This rant by Ed Schultz is a classic. When he got to 'lapel pin' I spit seltzer.

Where is her justice? A former Halliburton employee who was brutally raped and beaten by fellow employees in Iraq is bringing attention to the practice of 'arbitration agreements' that not only prevent victims like her from seeking recourse, but also protect her attackers from facing criminal penalties. How did we get here (I'm going to guess the answer is 'Reagan') and how the hell do we undo this damage?

Maine considers unicameral legislature The Maine House of Representatives has approved legislation that would replace the state House and Senate with a single legislative body. If the legislation advances all the way through the system, Maine will join Nebraska and become the second state in the union with a unicameral state legislature.
Did Hillary really say that? Lindsey Graham made the stunning claim on Tuesday that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told him privately that if the detainee abuse photos are released it will endanger diplomats the world over. I figure it's one of two scenarios...If she said that, those photos are far worse than anything anyone who isn't Tim Burton or Quentin Tarantino could possibly conceive of; or he is exaggerating something fierce...
