About Us

This blog is written by a couple of pissed-off patriots who share a fierce dedication to the Constitution - the only words ever put to paper worth dying for. We exist to remind y'all that America was founded on four boxes:
  • The Soapbox
  • The Ballot Box
  • The Jury Box
  • The Ammo Box
They should be used in that order. This is our soapbox.

It's Deeds by a mile  Creigh Deeds won the Democratic gubernatorial primary in Virginia today with just under 50% of the vote in a three-way race.  His victory sets up a rematch with state Attorney General Bob McDonnell, who defeated him in that race in 2005 by a mere 323 votes out of more than two million cast.  This race is going to be a battle royal with both national parties pouring everything they have, and then some, into their candidate in hopes of proving some larger point and heading into the 2010 midterms with the wind at their back.  (As you are well aware, challengers are already getting their names and faces out there, and incumbents will start campaigning this fall, when Congress returns from the August break, so the timing on this race compounds it's importance.)  Before I move on, major props to Terry McAuliffe for being such a gracious contender.  Within three hours of the polls closing, the front page of his website had a message congratulating Senator Deeds, a message that we all need to pull together, because Virginia needs Creigh Deeds, and included a link to his fundraising page.  Way to be a team player, Terry.  Thank you.

I think The Onion probably has a civil case against Sarah Palin for intellectual property theft  (Yes, I realize the cognitive dissonance that automatically kicks in when "Sarah Palin" and "intellectual" are used in the same sentence, but bear with me.)  Sarah Palin did another (ins)Hannity lovefest Monday night, and the disconnect was staggering.  First she touted the way they do things in Alaska, where the state resources are considered community property and all the residents share in the largesse...then turned around a few minutes later and bemoaned the direction the nation is heading as "socialism."

Uighurs may find refuge in Palau  The United States is in the final stages of negotiations to transfer seventeen innocent detainees who have been ordered freed by a federal judge from detention in the Guantanamo Bay prison camp to Palau, a sparsely populated chain of islands in the South Pacific.

Remind me to never piss off Joan Walsh  She made a fool of Liz Cheney on Campbell Brown's show this evening, and didn't let the torture-loving bee-otch shout her down...and worked in a "Bush Cheney torture regime" and a taunting "Oh really?" and a "That's not true."  Way to go Joan!  If we are ever in the same city at the same time, I own you a drink.

More of this, please!  This rant by Ed Schultz is a classic.  When he got to 'lapel pin' I spit seltzer.

Supreme Court approves Chrysler-Fiat deal  Just over 24 hours after Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg ordered a temporary stay to the deal, the full court issued a brief, unsigned opinion clearing the way for the deal to commence.

Where is her justice?  A former Halliburton employee who was brutally raped and beaten by fellow employees in Iraq is bringing attention to the practice of 'arbitration agreements' that not only prevent victims like her from seeking recourse, but also protect her attackers from facing criminal penalties.   How did we get here (I'm going to guess the answer is 'Reagan') and how the hell do we undo this damage?

Texas Gov. Perry injured in mountain biking accident  Texas Governor Rick Perry broke his collarbone and got a bit scraped up Tuesday evening when he crashed while riding near his home.  He was treated at Seton Medical Center and released later Tuesday night, but his office cancelled all of his Wednesday appointments and appearances.

Pakistani's fight back against Taliban  Villagers angry with Taliban insurgents after a suicide bomber blew himself up in a mosque and killed 30 worshippers last week enraged villagers and sparked an uprising against the Taliban in a grass-roots rebellion against the Islamist militants.

Maine considers unicameral legislature  The Maine House of Representatives has approved legislation that would replace the state House and Senate with a single legislative body.  If the legislation advances all the way through the system, Maine will join Nebraska and become the second state in the union with a unicameral state legislature.

Did Hillary really say that?  Lindsey Graham made the stunning claim on Tuesday that Secretary of State Hillary Clinton told him privately that if the detainee abuse photos are released it will endanger diplomats the world over.   I figure it's one of two scenarios...If she said that,  those photos are far worse than anything anyone who isn't Tim Burton or Quentin Tarantino could possibly conceive of; or he is exaggerating something fierce...

Is Murdoch looking to unload the Weekly Standard?  The LA Times is reporting that anonymous sources close to the negotiations say that Murdoch's News Corp is close to finalizing a deal with Philip Anschutz to sell The Weekly Standard.

Actors strike averted  The Screen Actors Guild overwhelmingly approved a new contract today, ending a year-long dispute between actors and studios.

Texas Gov. Perry injured in mountain biking accident (4.00 / 1)
Probably trying to ride and chew gum at the same time and found out the hard way what his limitations are.

Or maybe it was his first ride after taking the training wheels off?

If God ever decides to give the world an enema, I'm pretty sure Wall Street is where He'll stick the hose.

Damn shame he didn't land on his head (0.00 / 0)
There would be no damage - that Hair Helmet would have protected him.

Maine considers unicameral legislature (4.00 / 1)
Some of us out here in CA have been pushing that for our state for a while now.  It's gained some serious momentum during the last few weeks.  I'd like to see them do away with our senate altogether.

If God ever decides to give the world an enema, I'm pretty sure Wall Street is where He'll stick the hose.

arbitration agreements (0.00 / 0)
Started as an expedited way of dealing with high-risk, short term profit situations.  An example was a boatload of Bananas coming into NY Harbor while a longshoreman's strike was going on.  The buyer and seller arbitrated the port of delivery and the ship went to Boston.  It's a 1905 case. Arbitration is even older:

Arbitration Act (Labor Disputes)  (Union CBA disputes)
June 1, 1898, ch. 370, 30 Stat. 424
United States Arbitration Act
Feb. 12, 1925, ch. 213, 43 Stat. 883

Today found at 45 U.S.C. Sec 8, et seq.

The use of Arb Agreements in everything from credit and debit cards to ordinary employment cases (such as this one) did become a standard during Reagan's term of office.  Of course, employment discrimination didn't exist until the enactment of the Civil Rights Act of 1964, 42 U.S.C. 2000e (as amended).

Want to find out what arbitration costs?  See, http://www.adr.org/

NELA ( www.nela.org ) has been trying to eliminate Arb agreements for ordinary workers (professional sports figures & high-dollar financial sector workers have equal footing with their employers - and have used arbitration for decades) and an amendment to eliminate arbitration in credit card disputes was just defeated in Congress.

Cognitive dissonance? (0.00 / 0)
Exactly what has Sarah said / stood for that wasn't true cognitive dissonance?

Family values?  Knocked up child - in her own home!

Fiscal conservatism?  Dump the permanent fund's surplus (Bush high dollar gas) into a buy-the-vote scheme leaving little for this year's distribution.

Touting the Constitution while firing the city librarian for refusing to censor books Sarah didn't like.

I can go on, and on, and on......Let's face it, she's dumber than a box of rocks.  She makes Dan Quayle look positively bright.  Her HS Career review recommended "doorstop."

She's a mess and those who find her appealing are a mess, too.

"In the part of this universe that we know there is great injustice, and often the good suffer, and often the wicked prosper, and one hardly knows which of those is the more annoying."
