About Us

This blog is written by a couple of pissed-off patriots who share a fierce dedication to the Constitution - the only words ever put to paper worth dying for. We exist to remind y'all that America was founded on four boxes:
  • The Soapbox
  • The Ballot Box
  • The Jury Box
  • The Ammo Box
They should be used in that order. This is our soapbox.

So what we're trying to do, first of all, is say, O.K., here is a government monopoly plan. We're designing a free-market plan. Now, they're very different models. You know, we tell Boris Yeltsin, "Get rid of centralized command bureaucracies. Go to the marketplace.  O.K., what do you think the Health Care Financing Administration is? It's a centralized command bureaucracy. It's everything we're telling Boris Yeltsin to get rid of. Now, we don't get rid of it in round one because we don't think that that's politically smart, and we don't think that's the right way to go through a transition. But we believe it's going to wither on the vine because we think people are voluntarily going to leave it -- voluntarily.  --Then-House Speaker Newt Gingrich, speaking to a Blue Cross/Blue Shield conference on Oct. 24, 1995 about Medicare

Republicans have opposed every social program that makes people's lives better for as long as there has been a republican party. They hate, on spec, every single thing that helps ordinary people because they see such programs as taking caviar out of the mouths of poor, helpless, underrepresented millionaires.

For more than a century they have been on the wrong side of every social issue.  Women's suffrage, civil rights, voting rights, social justice, social programs, Medicare...all of them. And given half a chance, they would do away with them all tomorrow.  In fact, 137 republicans voted to abolish Medicare less than six months ago.

The plan, drafted by Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan, top Republican on the House Budget Committee, called for eventually replacing the traditional Medicare program with subsidies to help retirees enroll in private health care plans. Current beneficiaries would keep their coverage and those 55 and older also would go into the current system.

If Paul Ryan and 136 other republicans had their way, my husband would get to enroll, but there would be no Medicare for me and my cohort. We would be left to the tender mercies of the private insurance market just as we start requiring maintenance care that costs money, so we would be priced out of coverage by high premiums on policies that didn't cover our "preexisting" issues with blood pressure or arthritis or any of the other issues attendant with normal aging.

Fortunately the DNC is (finally!) starting to push back at least a little bit and hang some of these wingnut votes around the scrawny necks and quivering wattles of the feckless, obstructionist, backward, venal, craven and immoral republican minority.

More of this, please:

The time to hold these assholes accountable is now - and no, I will not be apologizing for calling House republicans assholes. If any apologies are in order, they should be accorded to actual physical assholes, because they serve a purpose and House republicans do not.

Fuck those clowns. Gloves off, and beat them bloody. When they go down, start kicking them.  When they beg you to stop and are spitting teeth, kick them some more.  When you get tired, stop to catch your breath and wait for them to thank you for mercifully stopping the beating - and resume kicking them.

The anti-reform zealots doom 18,000 Americans per year to death because they can not see a doctor for treatable conditions.  That is six times the death toll of 9/11 every single year.  That makes the republican minority and their gun-totin', tax protestin', tea baggin' Brownshirt enforcers the most effective terrorist organization in the world.

Start treating these domestic terrorists as such.
